Safaris / Nguruman Wilderness
This is remote walking - with the emphasis on remote. Starting away from the busier routes into the Maasia Mara, this walking safari takes you up into the Maasia's sacred forest, the Loita Hills, skirting the Tanzania border with views over it the Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti plains, and onto the Nguruman escarpment, overlooking the driest and lowest parts of the Rift Valley.
Here astonishing tree goves and thick bush allow the rare Black Rhino and wild Dog to hang on. Buffalo inhabit these forests, along with bush-buck and forest hog. Unusual species of birds and butterflies will acoompany your walk, whilst the night is spent camping under incomparable skies and stars.
You will be accompanied by our Maasai guides, who will strike and break camp over four nights. Walking with the men will allow you to learn of their own long distance treks towards water, grazing, and recall their days as young boys walking into manhood through their treks in the bush. Radio contact and emergency jeep back-up are always there.
You will be encouraged to walk and talk with your guides, to learn how the bush sustains and nutures you on this journey.
We finish the trip in absolute luxury with a night in the Shompole lodge.
Allow 5 days. A packing list will be sent to you before departure. You need to be physically fit to undertake this trip, which is not suitable for children under the age of 16.
