Safaris / Mara Meander
The reason we started Thompson's East Africa was to allow you to experience the Maasai eye view of the Mara.
By walking through the landscape with local people, sturdy boots, light binoculars, and a lunch hamper, your guides will show you the landscape, and plants and animals it countains as they herd their zebu cattle through these dry lands. Towering trees over precious springs, vast grasslands and undulating thorn-bush, episodic rain and drought. These forces shape this landscape.
We cater for all eventualities, with accommodation in a luxury tented camp, back -up vehicles, and an opportunity to spend a night in a traditional fly-camp or traditional homestead. Listening to the mumerings of the men, the lilting laughter of the wives and chatter of the children, in amongst the stirring of their cattle, and faint drumming of cicadas.
Your stay will be interspersed by the distant woop of a hyena and roar of a lion. You will learn how these astonishing people live in a changing landscape. Of their tribal culture adapted alonside the area's extrodinary wildife. You may develop a taste for the outdoor life, as well as for Maasai tea, that will never leave you.
